This past month we increased the earning value of some books as we realized one teca for a novel as compared to one for a small picture book was totally unfair. So now we have fives and tens so the older, more competent readers can collect too.
The line-up for the opening started long before ten o’clock and there were children there of all ages, and, for the first time, from one of our reading rooms located three blocks away. The store also had a greater selection of items as Carol brought back things from Canada to augment the stock.
Children bought everything from tennis balls, to pens, coloured pencil sets to candy. One young man even bought a silver tiara. This month they had a lot more money to spend and after shopping many even had money still in their bank accounts ready for next month.
One big difference this month came when the children were writing their cheques to pay for their purchases and other children were there to help them. Last month it was a totally new experience but now we have knowledgable members who delight in being able to help the younger ones.
Several visitors to the library have commented on how many children there are now in there reading - earning tecas!! So far, so good. We only hope we are able to maintain a sufficient stock of items for the store.
