We’d like you to meet the nine year old who uttered those words after listening to the reading of a book in the Pantanal library. Cesia has only just discovered there is such a profession but it seems ideal to her.
Cesia is a grade three student who discovered the Hotel con Corazan reading room when visiting downtown Granada with her mother two years before. She saw a very big stuffed toy bear sitting in a chair in the doorway and asked why it was there. Her mother, a pre-school administrator in the very poor community where they live, took her over to investigate. There they met Coni Lazo the librarian in the reading room who introduced Cesia and mom to the idea of libraries and borrowing books. They went back several times to read and go to the main library to join up.
When asked what her favorite book was, Cesia showed the latest book she had read - Pinguinos (Penguins) by Daniel Nesquens. When asked why she liked that book she immediately turned to the back few pages where there was factual information about penguins and said she likes to learn about animals. She then went on to tell us several of her other favorite books including those by Anthony Brown and the Corduroy books.
Cesia is developing all the characteristics of a life-long reader!
