Thanks to the the community, associates and friends, the Chili Cook-off was a huge success last Sunday. Have not heard yet what we netted but it is almost secondary as this event has become a big annual community event.
This year we had three sets of musicians playing for the crowd. There was Manuel on the mandolin with friends playing the bongos and guitar. Next we had Rick Turner on the electric piano which was a big hit then good old Sandy crooning the Broadway oldies.
For the judges we had the chefs from El Camello, Ciudad Lounge and Pita Pita. Could not ask for higher standards than that! The chili contestants went all out with a wide array of different types of chili but all that I tasted were outstanding. Glad I was not a judge.
The winner was our own Helen Korengold, 2nd place went to Gert at La Flor Panamena and the people's choice award went to Bocadillos.
A great big thank you to everyone that provided a dessert. chili contestants, everyone that provided prizes for the raffles, Ciudad Lounge for the door prize, Nectar for providing the space and everyone that attended. For me, this year's event was the most enjoyable since I got to speak to a lot of people I don't see that often.
But it was hot between the sun and so many crock pots on at the same time. I had prepared a small video that showed what the Puedo Leer foundation was all about but it was too crowded to play it so just click on the link below to see it.
Thanks everyone for supporting Puedo Leer and just being there for us!
