Several people read to the children, our own Rafael taught the children the parts of a successful story and Carlos prepared everyone for a play to be acted out.
The big event was on Saturday August 25th at 3:00. We have a small dead-end street near the library which is perfect for games and contests. The sack race is always competitive though we had one injury. Carol Rea gamely joined the competition but after a couple bunny hops she took a tumble and had to watch the kids pass her by.
We had a balloon contest where a line of children had to pass a balloon between their legs to the next child. This took a while to explain since the smaller children didn't grasp the concept quickly thinking "Why in the world should I give away a perfectly good balloon?". Eventually the game was underway and winners declared.
Then the sidewalk art contest began. This year we saw a lot of creativity and the competition was fierce but eventually winners were declared.
We ended with cake and drinks for everyone. A grand time for all!
